The Montagnards
Montagnards, citizens of Vietnam, came to the central Vietnamese highlands on April 2004 for a peaceful demonstration to gain back their ancestral lands and religious freedom and met a horrid fate. Police responded to the demonstration brutally with tear gas, electric trenches and water cannons, with aid of several citizens armed with machetes, metal pipes and shovels to beat back the Montagnards. In those few days many Montagnards were severely wounded and some died, all because they peacefully protested to get back what rightly belongs to them. Not only have the Montagnards been forced to be silent, but their isn’t a way to escape. Many Montagnards have tried to flee over the border into Cambodia but once they get there Cambodian officials truck them back over into Vietnam. The Montagnards are trying to get back their lands and be free but when no one is there to help them, they are unable to prevail.
